Kathryn Hannaford

Kathryn is an emerging fine art photographer, focused primarily on capturing the essence and many moods of the natural and built worlds.

Shooting and developing her film photography has been a strong interest since Kathryn’s teenage years whilst growing up in the UK. This continues today with a deepening of her technical capabilities and experimentation with various alternative photographic techniques.

Kathryn prefers to use film for her image making because “analogue” photography allows her to slow down the creative process, to capture a unique moment in time which enables her mind to focus on one thing in its entirety. Her images often reflect a sense of stillness and the grounding experience of being fully present with the elements of the natural world.

She enjoys the use of colour and yet prefers monochrome, finding her mind more focused only on form and space.

Having a lifelong connection with trees, these often dominate her art practice, and yet “all space” intrigues her, especially how our own lives are defined within the four walls we live in. Often taking the everyday items for granted and missing their aesthetic beauty.

Kathryn’s photography has largely been for her personal enrichment. However following her recent success exhibiting at the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery with an annual charity art exhibition, this has provided her with artist feedback and confidence to pursue other creative possibilities.

After studying with the Centre for Creative Photography Kathryn’s goal is to continue to refine her art practice, connect with other artists, and sharing inspiration for this medium.
